Valentine’s Day infact, carries a great message behind it.

Numerous early Christian martyrs were named Valentine, all of them have something in common with love and romance.

One legend, for instance, contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.

When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Father Valentine, as he was then known, broke the rules and continued to marry people in secret, because he was a rebel, celebrating love against war.

And now we celebrate Valentine’s Day because we think that falling in love and getting married is the best thing that can happen to us. We also recognise that it’s not an easy thing to do, fall in love that is, so when it happens it ought be celebrated!
